About The Position

The Assistant Artistic Swimming Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Artistic Swimming Coach with developing and administering a highly competitive Artistic Swimming program. Additionally, this position will manage the daily schedule and maintenance operations of the Pioneer Hall pool. The Assistant Artistic Swimming Coach will abide by University and USA Artistic Swimming rules and regulations; and along with all other athletics personnel, will work towards achieving the objectives of Intercollegiate Athletics. Work is performed under general supervision and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Two years minimum of USA Artistic Swimming collegiate experience and/or experience in a highly competitive club system as a swimmer and/or coach.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and a safe driving record such as required by the university for Driver’s Authorization
  • Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.
  • All employees share the responsibility of maintaining information security and privacy requirements within the university by adhering to Federal and State regulations, and TWU Policies & Procedures.
  • If you are a male between the age of 18 and 25, federal law requires that you must be registered with the U.S. Selective Service System, unless you meet certain exemptions under Selective Service law. Under HB 558, enacted by the 76th Texas State Legislature, if you are currently of the age and gender requiring registration with Selective Service, but knowingly and willfully fail to do so, you are ineligible for employment with an agency in any branch of Texas state government.

Nice To Haves

  • Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use and lifeguard certification is preferred at the time of hire and will be required prior to participation in any countable athletically related activities as defined by the NCAA.
  • Current Aquatic Facility Operator certification (or equivalent) is preferred at time of hire but can be obtained post hire as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the head coach in managing and directing the artistic swimming program.
  • Oversees daily practice planning and oversight of workouts on events as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Assists in planning of team travel, officials’ travel, competition scheduling, and other required departmental and USA Artistic Swimming paperwork.
  • Serves as a contact for prospective student-athletes and their coaches throughout the recruiting process including but not limited to phone calls, evaluations, and planning/coordinating on-campus visits.
  • Facilitates student-athletes’ academic meetings, working closely with Compliance and Academic Services.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of fundraising and alumni relations activities.
  • Oversees the scheduling of the Pioneer Hall Pool, working closely with academics, visiting teams, summer camp needs and outside groups as applicable.
  • Supervision and training of aquatics staff to include lifeguards and swim instructors.
  • Responsible for the pool maintenance schedule and communication with maintenance vendors.
  • Maintains and oversees equipment repairs, inventory, pool supplies and maintenance for the Pioneer Hall Pool.
  • Maintains and updates a policies and procedure manual for Aquatics, to include the facility emergency action plan.
  • Commits to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the University, and USA Artistic Swimming with the utmost integrity.
  • Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department and other campus partners, attend department meetings and activities, and always represents the University positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school and club coaches, media and the general public.
  • Completes other assigned administrative duties in a timely manner.
  • Attend seminars, conferences and other professional development opportunities.
  • Implements Intercollegiate Athletics’ strategic plan as part of the Division of Student Life’s strategic plan.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
