About The Position

The Asset Protection Detective is responsible for protecting the people and assets of a Bloomingdale’s location. The role includes investigating and addressing shoplifting, supporting store shortage-reduction efforts, and maintaining building safety and security. Bloomingdale’s provides an Asset Protection/Loss Prevention training program and uses technology and analytics to support the work. Detectives are expected to carry out their duties professionally and may open or close the building when appropriate.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
1–2 years of related experience.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and share information with diverse groups of customers and peers.
Resourcefulness and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must satisfy licensing requirements where required by state or local jurisdiction.
Experience operating and monitoring CCTV systems.
Ability to work a flexible schedule with retail hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Ability to apprehend shoplifters.
Ability to sustain long periods in enclosed surveillance areas.
Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods; occasionally reach above eye level, stoop, kneel, or crouch; and frequently lift or move up to 30 pounds.

Responsibilities

Greet and welcome customers while on the selling floor.
Identify, observe, and apprehend individuals committing theft by shoplifting.
Apply knowledge of state laws and statutes related to shoplifting and apprehensions.
Participate in the store shortage-reduction program, including partnering with specific departments.
Maintain building safety and security, and open and close the building when appropriate.
Operate and monitor CCTV systems.
