About The Position

Reporting to the Manager of Capital Projects, the Asset Management/GIS Technician is responsible for the leadership, development, and continuous improvement of the District’s GIS and asset management programs. This role plays a key part in supporting data-informed decision-making across the organization by managing spatial and asset data, advancing asset management initiatives, and delivering analysis that informs capital planning and long-term infrastructure investment. Highly technical and analytical in nature, this position requires a self-directed, motivated individual with strong critical thinking skills and the ability to manage complex data systems and projects.

Requirements

  • Diploma in GIS, or a related field, from a recognized institute of technology
  • Minimum of 5 years’ related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Valid BC Class 5 Drivers’ License and satisfactory driver’s abstract
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GIS principles, enterprise geodatabases and ESRI tools (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online/Portal), including data modeling and administration
  • Experience with spatial data collection, mapping, and integration with asset or maintenance management systems
  • Working knowledge of mapping, surveying, and related technical principles
  • Strong working knowledge of asset management practices and standards, with the ability to effectively and independently lead the districts asset management program
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and provide effective customer service
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently in a highly technical and analytical environment, with strong self‑direction and motivation

Nice To Haves

  • Municipal government experience
  • Administration of Computerized Maintenance Management Software (preferably Cityworks)
  • Versioned editing workflows
  • Python scripting for data management, automation, and analysis
  • Professional certification in Asset Management through an accredited organization is an asset, as is knowledge of the CNAM Asset Management Competency Framework for Canadian Communities.
