About The Position

Supports the Asset Management Department with analytics and business function support such as directing the Company’s railcar equipment to TTX divisions, independent repair facilities, rack fabricators, railroad rack repair/modification facilities, scrap dealers, storage locations, and field maintenance operations across North America in order to meet planned maintenance, program and retirement schedules as well as reduce out-of-service time. Independently manages recurring reporting and contributes to straightforward analysis projects. Develops the ability to connect data to business context. Prepares reports on railcar movement, railcar equipment status, enroutes, scrap rates, and more depending on the needs of the department. Communicates extensively both internally with the Asset Management distribution team members as well as with external rail contacts on issues impacting railcar movement and shop supply. Works with the Fleet team to maintain accurate data in various TTX business systems. Secondary responsibilities include: broad project management responsibilities for individual Asset Management projects, working with management and external contacts to develop, coordinate, and implement successful projects in line with Fleet’s goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, preferably within the academic fields of Economics, Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business systems or Business Management.
  • One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office tools, specifically Excel and PowerPoint, to analyze and develop materials on railcar distribution.
  • Attention to detail, and problem solving skills are required.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, have the ability to understand and set priorities, and display a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and use a variety of server-based software systems as well as other web-based industry systems to accomplish effective railcar distribution.
  • Ability to learn a sound understanding of railcar distribution, its functions, and the computer skills necessary to distribute equipment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization and some ambiguity.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to apply educated reasoning to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in generally standardized situations.
  • Ability to compute statistical analyses such as regressions, and to draw and interpret descriptive statistics.

  • Preferred experience in process improvement.
  • Must have interest in participating in continuous improvement within all job responsibilities and departmental activities.
  • Preferred experience in developing queries and analytical reports in tools such as SQL, Python, and/ or able to develop metrics in Business Intelligence tools such as Power BI.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to learn new computer applications quickly.
  • Willing to travel to rail yards and remote working sites, sometimes including overnight or multi-day visits.

Responsibilities

  • Use various systems to locate railcars for movement to repair facility, storage or scrap.
  • Understand railcar equipment flows and the car management process.
  • Communicate with internal team members and external rail contacts to convey information related to tactical distribution of capturing cars from service.
  • Project Management: actively plan, design, develop, implement, and monitor project-based solutions to solve Fleet-specific distribution issues, both at strategic and tactical levels.
  • Learn, understand, and develop fluency in Fleet-related distribution and car management systems, including UFD/TTXNEXTT, Maximo/AssetHub, Railinc/UMLER/DDCT/Transmetriq, SharePoint Reports Center, and individual railroad customer service systems, as applicable.
  • Develop key metrics and distribute reports on railcar activities using Microsoft Office tools to analyze and interpret data.
  • Create, maintain and/or manage dashboards and reports as needed to streamline departmental tasks, provide information on progress toward schedules and programs.
  • Measure and monitor compliance rate on railcars directed to Facilities.
  • Provide backup for various team members while they are out of office.
