About The Position

Application close date: Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. Join Blue Origin's Operations Reliability organization as a Sr. Design Reliability Engineer, where you will build reliability into the ground systems, tooling, GSE, and factory automation that enable us to launch rockets and build the foundation for a road to space. You will work directly with design and manufacturing engineering teams to identify and eliminate failure modes before they reach the floor. Passion for our mission and vision is required! This position is responsible for leading design reliability activities across new tooling, GSE, and factory-automation projects — ensuring that what gets built is reliable from day one. This position is not for immediate vacancy but is intended to fill anticipated future openings. Applicants who best meet the job requirements will be contacted and considered when a position becomes available.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related engineering field.
  • Experience in reliability, design, or systems engineering in a manufacturing, aerospace, or high-consequence operations environment.
  • Experience leading FMEA, design reviews, and reliability assessments on mechanical, fluids, electrical, or controls systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fluid schematics, and electrical circuit diagrams.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills — ability to drive design changes across engineering teams who do not report to you.
  • Must be available to support off-shift or weekend work during critical builds or investigations.
  • Must be willing to travel 25% of the time.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ground support equipment, tooling, or factory automation in a launch, aerospace, or high-rate manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with reliability engineering tools such as FMECA, fault tree analysis, or reliability block diagrams.
  • Experience authoring or improving design standards, reliability requirements, or engineering procedures.
  • Experience with Maximo, SAP, or other CMMS/ERP platforms for asset lifecycle management.
  • Experience supporting commissioning and early-use stabilization of new equipment or systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and design reviews on new tooling, GSE, and factory-automation projects to identify and close reliability risks before release.
  • Define and enforce reliability requirements during the design process, partnering with design and manufacturing engineering teams to drive changes.
  • Track and disposition reliability findings through design, build, and early operations — ensuring risks are resolved, not deferred.
  • Develop and maintain reliability standards, design guidelines, and engineering procedures for ground systems and tooling.
  • Support commissioning and early-use stabilization of new equipment, translating design-phase findings into maintenance plans and operational guidance.
  • Build lightweight metrics and visibility tools to track design reliability performance and guide priorities across the portfolio.
  • Spend significant time on the floor and in the field observing hardware, engaging with engineering and operations stakeholders, and closing the loop on design changes.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Stock Options for all regular employees (working at least 20 hours/week)
  • Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
