About The Position

Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital, jointly operated with Lifepoint Health and Tampa General Hospital, is seeking an Assessment Specialist to support patient access and care. The position facilitates requests for services from initial response and assessment through referral, level-of-care designation, admission, and appropriate follow-up. The specialist conducts initial evaluations, documents patients’ symptoms, functioning, and needs, and provides information to a physician for level-of-care determination. The role also requires courteous customer service and accurate handling of preadmission and admission documentation, insurance pre-certification, emergency detention processes, and EMTALA requirements.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Nursing or a master's degree in Social Work or Counseling.
• CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and before any patient contact.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• May be required to work flexible hours and overtime.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility.
• Direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric, and geriatric patients.
• Experience in patient assessments, family motivations, treatment planning, and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate requests for services, including the initial response, assessment, referral, appropriate level-of-care designation, admission, and follow-up.
• Conduct initial evaluations and initiate assessments; document patient symptoms, functioning, and needs; and provide information to a physician for level-of-care determination.
• Assist patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers promptly and courteously.
• Maintain clear knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and processes and EMTALA.
• Accurately maintain preadmission and admission paperwork and complete insurance pre-certification.
