About The Position

Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital, operated jointly with Lifepoint Health and Tampa General Hospital, is seeking a PRN Assessment Specialist for its behavioral health hospital. The role facilitates requests for services from the initial response through assessment, referral, level-of-care designation, admission, and follow-up. The specialist conducts initial evaluations, documents patient symptoms, functioning, and needs, and provides information to a physician for level-of-care determination. The position also requires courteous customer service, knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and processes and EMTALA, accurate preadmission and admission paperwork, and completion of insurance pre-certifications. The schedule is PRN nights, 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Nursing or master's degree in Social Work or Counseling.
• CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and before any patient contact.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• May be required to work flexible hours and overtime.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility.
• Direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric, and geriatric patients.
• Experience in patient assessments, family motivations, treatment planning, and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate requests for services, including the initial response, assessment, referral, appropriate level-of-care designation, admission, and follow-up.
• Conduct initial evaluations and initiate assessments; document patient symptomology, functioning, and needs; and provide information to a physician for level-of-care determination.
• Assist patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers promptly and courteously.
• Apply knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and processes and EMTALA.
• Maintain accurate preadmission and admission paperwork and complete insurance pre-certifications.
