About The Position

Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital, a joint venture between Lifepoint Health and Tampa General Hospital, is seeking an Assessment Specialist (RN) to join their PRN team. This role is crucial in facilitating the patient's journey from initial request for services through admission and follow-up. The Assessment Specialist will conduct initial evaluations, document patient status, and collaborate with physicians for level of care determination. The position emphasizes excellent customer service, knowledge of emergency detention and EMTALA processes, and accurate completion of admission paperwork and insurance pre-certifications. The RN will also monitor patient conditions, administer medications per hospital policy, and consistently interact with patients with empathy, dignity, and respect, while performing comprehensive nursing assessments.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing Required or Master's degree in Social Work/Counseling required.
  • Current clinical, social work, or RN license as required by state regulations.
  • Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric patients preferred.
  • Experience in patient assessments, family motivations, treatment planning and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities.
  • CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric patients preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates response to a request for services, including the initial response, the assessment, the referral process, the designation of the appropriate level of care, admission into services, and appropriate follow-up activity.
  • Conducts initial evaluation, initiates the assessment, documents patient symptomology, functioning, and needs, and provides information to MD for LOC determination.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in assisting patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers promptly and courteously.
  • Possess clear knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and processes and EMTALA.
  • Maintains all preadmission and admission paperwork with accuracy and completes all pre-certification with insurance companies.
  • Will monitor patient for change of condition and respond accordingly up to and including notification of the physician.
  • RN will follow hospital policy for medication administration.
  • RN will consistently use empathy, dignity, and respect when interacting with patients.
  • Assists/performs comprehensive nursing assessments on all patients.
