About The Position

Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital, operated jointly with Lifepoint Health and Tampa General Hospital, is seeking an Assessment Specialist (RN) to join their team. This role is driven by a commitment to employee well-being and providing exceptional patient care. The Assessment Specialist will be responsible for facilitating the response to service requests, including initial response, assessment, referral, level of care determination, admission, and follow-up. The role involves conducting initial evaluations, documenting patient status, and providing information for LOC determination. Excellent customer service skills are essential for interacting with patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers. The position requires knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork, processes, and EMTALA. Accurate maintenance of preadmission and admission paperwork, completion of pre-certifications, and monitoring patients for changes in condition are also key responsibilities. The RN will administer medications according to hospital policy and interact with patients with empathy, dignity, and respect, while also performing comprehensive nursing assessments.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing Required.
  • Current RN license as required by state regulations.
  • CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility.
  • Direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric patients preferred.
  • Experience in patient assessments, family motivations, treatment planning and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates response to a request for services, including the initial response, the assessment, the referral process, the designation of the appropriate level of care, admission into services, and appropriate follow-up activity.
  • Conducts initial evaluation, initiates the assessment, documents patient symptomology, functioning, and needs, and provides information to MD for LOC determination.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in assisting patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers promptly and courteously.
  • Possess clear knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and processes and EMTALA.
  • Maintains all preadmission and admission paperwork with accuracy and completes all pre-certification with insurance companies.
  • Will monitor patient for change of condition and respond accordingly up to and including notification of the physician.
  • RN will follow hospital policy for medication administration.
  • RN will consistently use empathy, dignity, and respect when interacting with patients.
  • Assists/performs comprehensive nursing assessments on all patients.
