About The Position

Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital, operated jointly with Lifepoint Health and Tampa General Hospital, is seeking an Assessment Specialist (RN) to join their PRN team. This role is crucial in facilitating the patient's journey through the service request process, from initial response and assessment to admission and follow-up. The Assessment Specialist will conduct initial evaluations, document patient status, and collaborate with physicians for level of care determination. They will also manage pre-admission paperwork, process pre-certifications with insurance companies, monitor patient conditions, and administer medications as per hospital policy. Empathy, dignity, and respect are core values in patient interactions, and the role involves performing comprehensive nursing assessments.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing Required.
  • Current RN license as required by state regulations.
  • CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric patients preferred.
  • Experience in patient assessments, family motivations, treatment planning and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates response to a request for services, including the initial response, the assessment, the referral process, the designation of the appropriate level of care, admission into services, and appropriate follow-up activity.
  • Conducts initial evaluation, initiates the assessment, documents patient symptomology, functioning, and needs, and provides information to MD for LOC determination.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in assisting patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers promptly and courteously.
  • Possesses clear knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and processes and EMTALA.
  • Maintains all preadmission and admission paperwork with accuracy and completes all pre-certification with insurance companies.
  • Monitors patient for change of condition and responds accordingly up to and including notification of the physician.
  • Follows hospital policy for medication administration.
  • Consistently uses empathy, dignity, and respect when interacting with patients.
  • Assists/performs comprehensive nursing assessments on all patients.
