About The Position

The Office of Assessment, Research, Evaluation, & Accreditation (AREA) leads university-wide assessment initiatives for UT Austin's Core Curriculum and Service & Support/Administrative Units (SSUs), among other responsibilities. These assessment efforts are essential to maintaining the University's accreditation and play a key role in advancing student learning, improving the student experience, strengthening the Core Curriculum, and enhancing the quality of services provided across campus. AREA is seeking one graduate student to support annual assessment activities related to the Core Curriculum and Service & Support/Administrative Units. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to projects that directly inform institutional decision-making and continuous improvement efforts across the University. As assessment and accreditation continue to grow in importance within higher education, this experience provides valuable professional development and is an excellent addition to a résumé for students interested in educational assessment, institutional research, higher education administration, accreditation, or program evaluation. We are seeking a graduate student who is passionate about improving education and enhancing the student experience at UT Austin. Preference will be given to students in the College of Education or those pursuing careers in higher education, although graduate students from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Strong time management and project coordination skills
  • Experience with data cleaning, management, analysis, interpretation, and visualization using Excel, SPSS, or similar software
  • Experience working with both qualitative and quantitative data
  • Strong report writing skills and the ability to communicate data findings clearly to a variety of audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and consistently meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills, intellectual curiosity, a collaborative mindset, and the initiative to take ownership of projects
  • Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program, in good academic standing, and making satisfactory progress toward degree completion

Responsibilities

  • Collect, organize, and manage assessment data at the course, program, and unit levels.
  • Perform data entry, cleaning, analysis, and interpretation using both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Assist with the development of assessment instruments, surveys, and related communications.
  • Create data visualizations and contribute to reports by synthesizing findings and connecting results to student learning outcomes, institutional goals, and accreditation standards.
  • Support the dissemination of assessment findings by developing accessible reporting materials, assisting with presentations and workshops, and engaging with faculty and campus stakeholders.
  • Review assessment plans and reports and assist in providing constructive feedback to academic and administrative units.
  • Monitor updates from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to help ensure institutional assessment practices remain aligned with current accreditation and state requirements.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation and training materials to support consistency and continuity of assessment practices.
