About The Position

This position is part of Aero Transportation Products (ATP), a business organization part of the Wabtec Corporation. ATP has supported the Agriculture and Industrial arena as an innovator in the rail industry for 45 years, designing and building products for applications in North America and beyond. This role is specific to the McPherson, KS location, where the team primarily supports the production of steel and aluminum hatch covers and gates for Wabtec’s Freight Components division. As a member of the McPherson-based team, you will be responsible for the general assembly of components in accordance with product specifications, engineering drawings, work orders, and quality procedures. You will be cross-trained in a variety of tasks, including completing assembly checklists, testing parts, and monitoring stock bins. Your training will also include the use of a variety of hand and pneumatic tools.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess basic math skills.
  • Requires a basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively unsupervised.
  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions.
  • Ability to respond positively to feedback and implement change in process and procedures as needed.

  • Employee is regularly required to: Read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Stand and/or walk for 10 hours a day, with minimal breaks.
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds independently or up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Vision abilities include close and distance vision, color distinction, and observe small handwriting, labels, and components.
  • Employee is always required to wear steel toed shoes and safety glasses.
  • Employee is required to wear hearing protection in designated areas.
  • The Position requires the employee to be on-site during scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.
  • Requires daily face-to-face interaction and communication with employees on production line and management.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles components according to blueprints, routers, work orders, checklists, and specifications to build, assemble, and test parts and finished goods that meet quality standards in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Accurately completes assembly checklists.
  • Monitors stock bins in work area and reports stock needs to Shop Floor Lead(s).
  • Ensures a safe and healthy work environment by following company standards and procedures.
  • Adheres to the Wabtec Code of Conduct.
  • Other duties as assigned.
