About The Position

The Asphalt Luteman makes adjustments to asphalt mat thickness and slope to achieve finish grade using an asphalt lute or other finishing tool. The role requires experience with roadway and parking lot work and includes skilled and unskilled tasks associated with asphalt paving and grading operations. Candidates with screed or jack experience are preferred, though training is available for willing and capable candidates.

Requirements

Experience with roadway and parking lot work; training may be provided to a willing and capable candidate.
Willingness to learn multiple tasks in the paving operation.
Ability to follow precise instructions and strict safety rules and policies.
Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work as part of a team.
Maintain good attendance and a good safety record.
Ability to work Saturdays and Sundays when needed, and some nights.
A military base pass is required for some positions.
Regularly lift 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, stretch, bend, lift, pull, twist, throw, reach, and squat; standing and walking may extend to 12–15 hours in a day.
Ability to work in sometimes extreme hot and cold temperatures.
Ride to and from work; if driving a company vehicle is required, meet company driver qualification standards.

Nice To Haves

Screed or jack experience.
A valid North Carolina driver's license is encouraged.

Responsibilities

Operate a lute to help achieve a finished asphalt laydown product.
Perform skilled and unskilled tasks associated with asphalt paving and grading operations.
Inspect asphalt mats and grades for defects, identify problems behind the paver, and make adjustments to achieve a smooth, rideable finish.
Use tools such as shovels, rakes, lutes, and brooms.
Operate a farm-type tractor with a power broom attachment when needed.
Follow precise instructions and required safety rules and policies.
Work as a reliable team member and maintain good attendance and a good safety record.
