About The Position

The Asphalt Foreman supervises the daily activities of an asphalt paving crew and is responsible for crew safety and quality of workmanship. The role involves coordinating the crew’s schedule and equipment needs, arranging trucking and asphalt materials, and communicating with project owners, inspectors, and engineers. The foreman may need to work nights and weekends as required and also performs hands-on paving work, basic equipment upkeep, and grade and quantity calculations.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years of paving experience.
Working knowledge of paving equipment.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent technical training and related experience.
Knowledge of safety.
Knowledge of traffic control.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

CDL preferred.
Asphalt-related experience, such as traffic control, striping, or distributor work, preferred.

Responsibilities

Oversee the daily work activities of the asphalt paving crew.
Discuss the day’s schedule and equipment needs with the crew.
Confirm scheduled loading times, material type, and tonnage totals with the plant operator.
Order the daily trucking needs.
Determine the type and tonnage of asphalt needed and notify the plants.
Communicate with owners, inspectors, and engineers about the paving project.
Shovel and rake asphalt.
Perform minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment.
Calculate areas and volumes.
Measure distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and check grade from a string line.
Be responsible for crew safety and quality of workmanship.
