About The Position

This position is a 1.0 FTE, working 190 days located at Multiple locations. The role involves providing American Sign Language interpretation and/or cued language transliteration in various educational environments, including classrooms, staff meetings, large/formal training meetings, department meetings, IEP meetings, and interactions with supervisors and colleagues. The interpreter will facilitate communication between American Sign Language and/or cued language and English, adhering to professional conduct codes and demonstrating knowledge of technical signs and vocabulary used in educational settings. The position requires a collaborative team player who is dependable, flexible, organized, and willing to participate in interpreter training opportunities.

Requirements

  • Experience with simultaneous interpreting between ASL and/or cued language and English.
  • Interpreting experience in educational settings.
  • Must hold a valid certification in one of the following: Competency in English, ASL and/or cued language.
  • Virginia Quality Assessment Screening Level III, or
  • Education Interpreter Performance Assessment 3.5 or above, or
  • RID Certification.
  • Knowledge of RID (Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf) and/or TECUnit Code of Professional Conduct

Responsibilities

  • Sign language interpreter for ASL classroom.
  • Provide American Sign Language interpretation and/or cued language transliteration in varied environments, i.e.: Classrooms, staff meetings, large/formal training meetings, department meetings, IEP meetings, and interactions with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Effectively facilitate communication between American Sign Language and/or cued language and English.
  • Adhere to RID (Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf) and/or TECUnit Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Knowledge of technical signs and/or vocabulary used in educational environments.
  • Dependable, flexible, and organized.
  • Collaborative team player with teacher and staff.
  • Willingness to participate in interpreter training opportunities.
