About The Position

Legatis is an Obra Capital–backed firm that acquires and manages complex legacy tort and environmental liability portfolios. Our leadership team brings decades of litigation and insurance expertise from the largest property and casualty insurers—and unlike most firms in this space, we do not outsource. Claims management, insurance recovery, forecasting, and investments all remain in-house. We are hiring an Asbestos Claims Attorney to lead claims and litigation strategy across our portfolio. This is a senior, independent role working directly with the executive team on complex long-tail liabilities from intake through resolution.

Requirements

• Admission to at least one state bar
• 10+ years of experience defending long-tail products liability claims, including asbestos, pharmaceutical, or similar matters, and/or managing complex litigation for a corporate insured or insurance claims organization
• Strong command of asbestos claims, including technical knowledge, quantitative analysis, and insurance coverage experience
• Proven ability to work independently under pressure, evaluate underlying claims, and assess potential settlements
• Clear, effective communication skills with senior management and external stakeholders
• Financial modeling experience

Responsibilities

• Interface with defense counsel on all facets of toxic tort litigation and settlement strategy
• Manage the overall defense and resolution of claims within the company’s liability portfolio
• Select and supervise litigation vendors and outside counsel
• Evaluate claims and make recommendations to senior management regarding settlement or trial strategy for individual and group claims
• Advise senior management on legal developments that may affect the value or resolution of claims
• Lead due diligence on potential acquisitions, including assessment of claims exposures and overall portfolio valuation
• Manage relationships with commercial insurers and work with chief legal counsel and allocation specialists to calculate and bill defense and indemnity allocations under applicable law
• Manage claim intake, tender claims to third parties where applicable, and supervise claims vendors
