WUWM is hiring an Arts and Culture Multimedia Producer. This position has been grant-funded for two years, with a potential extension of a third year. The producer will develop stories for broadcast and digital platforms specifically about arts and culture news and community-related events and issues affecting Milwaukee and the surrounding region. The producer will develop special projects, including events and collaborations with other producers and reporters at WUWM and local public media stations. In their second year, they may develop a special digital or broadcast series. The producer will research, prepare, and report stories from Milwaukee and the southeastern Wisconsin region that are balanced, issue-oriented, and analytical for use in news, public affairs programs and/or digital space. They will employ editorial judgement to select sources, conduct and record interviews, and write scripts. The producer will edit audio and video to create a broadcast spot or feature, talk show segment, a digital article and a social media post — including vertical video — for each story. Production duties specifically include: Contribute to content including interviewing sources, writing features/spots, and completing other necessary production tasks to create audio features, talk show segments, digital articles and social media content centered in arts and culture and occasional breaking news. Applies editorial judgment and maintains industry standards of journalistic ethics and excellence. Stays abreast of developments in arts, policy and culture in Milwaukee and Wisconsin, and maintains contacts on continued stories to ensure follow-up, and research topic areas to provide in-depth reports. Collaborates with communications team and editors on both long-term and short-term multimedia projects. This position requires the ability to work on weekdays, evenings, and occasional weekends, as well as means of transportation to conduct off-site reporting and interviews. Work will be performed primarily on-site at the Chase Tower in Milwaukee. Hybrid work options may be available with specifics regarding work location requirements discussed during the interview process.
