About The Position

Immaculate Conception School is seeking an Art Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This part-time, non-exempt position is responsible for teaching and developing students' interest and ability in creative expression through visual arts, fostering aesthetic understanding and appreciation, and discovering student talents in art for both elementary and middle school grade levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, typically in education with a specialization in art or art education.
  • Experience working with children in an art studio and/or classroom setting.
  • Knowledge of art history and different art genres.
  • Ability to communicate concrete and abstract concepts to students.
  • Patience and ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to spot and cultivate creativity.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • High degree of integrity, loyalty, and dependability.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must exhibit respect for the teachings and discipline of the Catholic Church regarding matters of faith and morals, including maintaining a lifestyle in conformity with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with various art mediums such as charcoal pencil and acrylics.
  • Knowledge of acrylic paint techniques like dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting, and monoprinting.

Responsibilities

  • Creates lesson plans that teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history, appropriate for the age and abilities of the students.
  • Teaches and encourages the use of different art mediums and techniques.
  • Provides instruction for students to develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations.
  • Demonstrates, teaches, and assists students in techniques such as drawing and painting.
  • Communicates students' progress to parents, especially for those needing extra assistance.
  • Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to students' varying needs.
  • Instructs students in the proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  • Organizes storage areas and controls the use of materials, equipment, and tools.
  • Evaluates each student's performance and growth and prepares progress reports.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, and tools, and maintains inventory records.
  • Runs the classroom within the allocated budget.
  • Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions.
  • Actively supervises students to ensure safety and security in various school areas.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate student supervision for a safe, orderly, and productive environment.
  • Attends school preparation days, in-service and staff development opportunities, and Diocesan educational workshops.
  • Attends and participates in school faculty meetings, open houses, and other school-related activities.
  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • Follows all Immaculate Conception School and Allentown Diocese policies.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Principal.
