About The Position

Camp Towhee is seeking an Art Program Leader to join their team. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating art-based programs for youth aged 0-18 with mental health issues complicated by learning disabilities. The Art Program Leader will work within a strength-based approach, incorporating families and the community into the support journey. The camp environment is described as rewarding, magical, and challenging, providing significant experience and skill-building opportunities in social services, psychology, or teaching. The program emphasizes research-backed, science-informed services that are respectful of diversity and delivered by a compassionate team in a safe, welcoming space.

Requirements

  • Two (2) or more years in a post-secondary degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with children and/or youth, preferably our population.
  • Personal, professional, or educational experiences in a related field.
  • Experience supervising and/or working collaboratively with a team.
  • Must have/acquire a current and valid police records check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and exercise good judgment in making decisions within the scope of authority of the position.
  • Must have/acquire Standard First Aid with CPR C.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful and aware manner with groups from diverse background and experiences.
  • Experience facilitating programming using art and artistic tools, particularly with a therapeutic lens.
  • Experience with and interest in a variety of artistic tools.
  • Ability to teach basic art techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous professional experience working within a camp environment, strongly preferred.
  • Experience with behaviour management and supportive counselling, strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate effective and intentional high-quality programs that are designed to meet specific learning objectives and skill development themes.
  • Maintain an organized and clean program space.
  • Function as a member of the Arts/Music/Drama and larger programs team by supporting peers with their programming and initiatives.
  • Assist in other areas of the camp by providing direct support and supervision of campers during mealtimes, evening programs, bedtime routines and night supervision as needed.
  • Work as part of the overall staff team by participating in the planning and implementation of camp-wide programming.
  • Facilitate choice-based activities on a rotating basis with other program staff.
  • Adhere to and interpret to other staff and campers the policies, practices, and procedures of Camp Towhee.
