About The Position

The Camp Program Leader is responsible for designing, leading, and facilitating engaging, inclusive camp activities for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. This role ensures that all programs are safe, adaptive, and meaningful while fostering independence, socialization, and fun. The Program Leader serves as a positive role model and plays a key role in creating a supportive, person-centered camp environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities (professional or volunteer)
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage groups in a structured yet flexible environment

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred in Recreation, Education, Human Services, or related field
  • Previous camp, recreational, or program leadership experience
  • Knowledge of behavior management and de-escalation techniques
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Valid driver's license (if transportation of participants is required)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead structured, creative, and inclusive daily activities (arts, recreation, life skills, community-based experiences, etc.)
  • Adapt programs to meet a wide range of abilities and learning styles
  • Ensure activities align with campers' individual goals and interests
  • Maintain an engaging, organized, and energetic program environment
  • Build positive relationships with campers while promoting independence and confidence
  • Provide hands-on support, including assistance with mobility, communication, and participation
  • Support behavioral needs using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement
  • Ensure dignity, respect, and inclusion for all participants
  • Maintain active supervision of campers at all times
  • Follow all safety protocols, including emergency procedures and incident reporting
  • Assist with personal care needs when required (including toileting, feeding, etc.)
  • Monitor group dynamics to ensure a safe and respectful environment
  • Work closely with counselors, lifeguards, and leadership staff to coordinate daily schedules
  • Provide guidance and support to camp staff as needed
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding camper progress, concerns, and successes
  • Complete daily documentation, activity logs, and incident reports accurately and timely
  • Assist in maintaining supplies, equipment, and program areas
  • Support set-up and clean-up of all activities and spaces
