About The Position
The Camp Cabin Leader is responsible for creating a safe, supportive, and engaging living environment for campers with physical and developmental disabilities. This role focuses on daily care, supervision, and fostering independence while ensuring each camper has a meaningful and inclusive camp experience. The Cabin Leader serves as a primary point of support, building strong relationships with campers and promoting a sense of belonging within the cabin group.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a caregiving role
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to provide personal care support with dignity and respect
Nice To Haves
- Previous camp or residential program experience
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Knowledge of behavior management and de-escalation techniques
- Valid driver's license (if transportation is required)
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and support to assigned campers throughout daily routines
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including dressing, hygiene, toileting, and feeding as needed
- Support mobility needs, including transfers and use of adaptive equipment
- Promote independence, self-advocacy, and confidence in all campers
- Maintain a structured, clean, and welcoming cabin environment
- Establish and reinforce daily routines, expectations, and positive behavior supports
- Ensure all camper belongings are organized and accounted for
- Support transitions between activities and maintain group cohesion
- Maintain constant awareness and supervision of campers
- Follow all health, safety, and emergency protocols
- Monitor camper health and behavior, reporting concerns promptly
- Implement de-escalation strategies and behavior support plans as needed
- Actively engage campers in scheduled activities and encourage participation
- Collaborate with Program Leaders and activity staff to adapt experiences for all abilities
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating enthusiasm and inclusion
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, nurses, and fellow staff regarding camper needs
- Document daily notes, incidents, and any changes in behavior or health
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and debriefs
- Foster a collaborative, respectful team environment
