About The Position

The USM Art Department is seeking life models for figure drawing and painting classes for the Academic Year 2026-2027. Student artists will draw and paint from the model under instructor supervision. The department is looking for diverse models of any gender or age, and welcomes all body types. Models will be asked to hold various poses at the instructor's direction for durations up to 20 minutes. Most modeling sessions will be nude. The work will take place in USM Art studio classrooms located on both the Portland and Gorham Campuses. Models will be paid $25.00/hour and work for entire studio class sessions, which are 2 hours and 45 minutes long and meet twice weekly. Occasionally, models may be required to work for two consecutive classes. The schedule includes morning, afternoon, and early evening classes. The USM Art Department prioritizes the comfort, privacy, and dignity of all models.

Requirements

  • Patience and focus.
  • Ability to hold a variety of poses, including short, dynamic postures or extended poses lasting 20 minutes.
  • Comfort with sustained moderate physical activity over a 2h45 minute period.
  • Comfort with most modeling being nude.
  • Ability to work morning, afternoon, and early evening classes.
  • Must not require Visa sponsorship support.
