About The Position

Biodesix is a leading diagnostic solutions company dedicated to improving clinical care and patient outcomes. Our diagnostic tests aid in clinical decisions for personalized care of lung disease patients, and our development services support institutions in developing diagnostic tests, tools, and therapeutics. Our mission is to transform patient care through timely, accessible, and personalized diagnostics. The Area Vice President of Sales will lead regional field sales activities for Biodesix products, focusing on direct selling to physicians and strategic selling to large practices and aggregators. This role requires strong operational capabilities, adaptability to the evolving healthcare environment, the ability to integrate new clinical data into sales strategies, and comfort interacting with both clinical experts and business managers. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in attracting, coaching, and retaining sales talent while managing costs effectively.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of life sciences and molecular diagnostics for oncology and the evolving competitive landscape.
  • Excellent knowledge of oncology, hematology, chemotherapeutics, and targeted agents.
  • Ability to maintain an outstanding level of market, customer, distribution, and product knowledge.
  • Ability to build/transform a sales team.
  • Outstanding strategic sales account planning skills.
  • Superior listening and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to provide an integrated molecular diagnostic solution using Biodesix products to customers.
  • Comfortable selling at the executive level (CEO, COO, CFO).
  • Keen understanding of the payor and reimbursement environment in the oncology and diagnostic space.
  • Excellent negotiation and customer service skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain a very high level of confidentiality.
  • Possess a very positive attitude and an understanding of the dynamics involved with organizational growth and change.
  • Impeccable oral and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Effective and regular cross-functional communication and cooperation.
  • Effective and regular utilization and optimization of Salesforce.com and other sales metrics.
  • Problem solving, decision making and technical learning.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong administrative skills and sophistication to manage business in complex and changing environments.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (SharePoint, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • B.S. in life science, biology, business, or marketing.
  • 10-15 years of direct sales management experience in a life sciences and/or molecular diagnostic setting with a history or proven past performance that has met and exceeded expectations.
  • Demonstrated measurable revenue generation at either a diagnostic, pharmaceutical, or relevant biotechnology company.
  • Candidates must reside within the South Region (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Southern Illinois, Western Tennessee, and the Greater St. Louis area).
  • Convenient access to a major commercial airport is required.

Responsibilities

  • Structure detailed strategic plans for gaining and retaining new and existing clients.
  • Manage regional product sales team to ensure all sales goals are met, driving company revenue and customer service goals.
  • Partner with strategic marketing, medical affairs, and reimbursement to ensure maximum account penetration.
  • Continually analyze the competitive landscape and environment to identify trends and provide customer feedback to the Vice President of Sales.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive business plan for each product by territory, including personnel, budgets, travel, training, territory management, and goal setting.
  • Work effectively with individuals across multiple departments within Biodesix.
  • Embrace, embody, and represent the Biodesix company culture at all times to external and internal constituents.
  • Provide strategic leadership for the sales function.
  • Lead leaders and high-performing teams to achieve long-term organizational goals.
  • Oversee talent and culture strategies, including organizational design and change management.
  • Represent the sales function in executive decision-making and cross-functional initiatives.
