About The Position

The Area Vice President - Heart & Vascular Service Line will serve as a key member of the Area’s senior management team and leadership table, providing visionary leadership and service line expertise. This role fosters a common vision for the North Star Line (NSL) and acts as an NSL representative for Division and Area(s) initiatives. The position involves collaborating with leadership to vet and prioritize initiatives, modeling financial impacts, and leading monthly operation performance reviews. The Area Vice President will develop and implement annual business plans, growth strategies, and operational objectives, while overseeing both ambulatory and inpatient services to ensure high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency. This role also focuses on building effective teams, fostering collaboration, influencing organizational change, and supporting institutional program planning. Integration and optimization of NSL operations, representing the NSL in local and state forums, and coordinating with physician co-leaders are also key responsibilities. The Area Vice President will directly manage administrative service line leaders, lead workforce strategy, and foster a culture of engagement and accountability. Ensuring compliance with policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of behavior, while improving employee experience and promoting professional development are critical. Collaboration on budget preparation, identification of value capture and efficiency opportunities, and monitoring of financial, quality, and operational metrics are essential. The role champions quality improvement and patient safety, enhances patient experience, supports the development of new programs, and promotes continuous quality improvement. Collaboration with marketing and community relations to enhance access and awareness, and support for the academic mission through research, education, and innovation are also included. The Area Vice President ensures the translation of discovery into the clinical environment, offering patients the most advanced care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of healthcare administrative experience, including at least 5 years of demonstrated progressively responsible management experience overseeing clinical operations or service lines, required.
  • Effective communication, ensuring transparency and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in healthcare planning, operations, and financial management.
  • Proven ability to lead large, multispecialty service lines in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and change management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an NSL representative for Division and Area(s) initiatives and programs such as access, teammate engagement, patient experience, and quality.
  • Collaborate with NSL, Division and Area(s) leadership to vet and prioritize major program and clinical services initiatives, model financial impact for new business models before submission to enterprise governance.
  • Leads Area(s) monthly operation performance reviews at Area(s) leadership forums, monitors budgettoactuals, investigates variances, and recommends corrective actions to NSL, Division and Area(s) leadership.
  • Develops and implements annual business plans, growth strategies, and operational objectives that support the Area’s and NSL goals.
  • Oversees both ambulatory and inpatient services across the care continuum, ensuring high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Build effective teams, foster collaboration, and create an atmosphere of open communication.
  • Influences others, gaining support, commitment, and action across the organization to achieve institutional goals and objectives.
  • Supports institutional program planning for new facilities or programs as needed.
  • Leads integration and optimization of NSL operations and best practices across the Area(s), including supporting merger, acquisition and new partnership activities as needed.
  • Represents the NSL in local and state forums, enhancing the brand and reputation of the service line.
  • Coordinates with physician co-leaders to advance clinical programs and innovation.
  • Collaborates with independent physician practice groups and leads negotiation, management, and oversight of physician contracts to ensure alignment with NSL goals and organizational standards.
  • Directly manages administrative service line leaders, including hiring, evaluations, development, and disciplinary procedures in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Leads workforce strategy for the Area(s), including staffing and leadership development.
  • Fosters a culture of engagement, accountability, and excellence among all teammates and physician partners.
  • Ensure compliance with all organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of behavior.
  • Improves employee experience, maintains low turnover rates, and promotes professional development.
  • Collaborates on preparation of annual operating and capital budgets, review and endorse NSL budgets and reforecasts, and ensure long-term planning aligns with NSL goals and objectives.
  • Identifies value capture and efficiency opportunities across Area(s) sites of care, create measurement and monitoring methods and tools to track realization.
  • Ensures effective resource allocation, budget management, capital planning, and financial performance for all NSL services within the Area(s).
  • Monitors and improves key financial, quality, and operational metrics; drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Champions quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, leveraging data and best practices to achieve superior outcomes.
  • Enhance patient experience measures across all markets.
  • Supports the development and implementation of new programs and services, responding to community needs and market dynamics.
  • Promotes continuous quality Improvement, focusing on error reduction, process improvement, and benchmarking for growth.
  • Collaborates with marketing and community relations to enhance access and awareness of NSL services.
  • Supports the academic mission by facilitating research, education, and innovation within the Area(s).
  • Partners with clinical and academic leaders to ensure clinical operations appropriately support educational and research programs.
  • Ensures the translation of discovery into the clinical environment, offering patients the most advanced care.
