The Area Vice President (AVP) of Heart and Vascular Services is a key member of the Area’s senior management team and leadership table, providing visionary leadership and service line expertise to foster a common vision for the National Service Line (NSL). This role serves as an NSL representative for Division and Area(s) initiatives, focusing on areas like access, teammate engagement, patient experience, and quality. The AVP collaborates with NSL, Division, and Area(s) leadership to vet and prioritize major program and clinical services initiatives, modeling financial impacts before enterprise governance submission. They lead monthly operational performance reviews, monitor budget-to-actuals, investigate variances, and recommend corrective actions. The position involves developing and implementing annual business plans, growth strategies, and operational objectives, overseeing both ambulatory and inpatient services to ensure high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency. Building effective teams, fostering collaboration, and influencing stakeholders are crucial. The AVP supports institutional program planning, leads integration and optimization of NSL operations, and represents the NSL in local and state forums. They coordinate with physician co-leaders, lead negotiations and oversight of physician contracts, and directly manage administrative service line leaders. Workforce strategy, including staffing and leadership development, is a key responsibility, as is fostering a culture of engagement and accountability. Ensuring compliance with all organizational policies and regulatory requirements is essential. The role also focuses on improving employee experience, maintaining low turnover rates, and promoting professional development. Collaboration on budget preparation, review, and endorsement of NSL budgets and reforecasts, along with identifying value capture and efficiency opportunities, are critical. The AVP ensures effective resource allocation, budget management, capital planning, and financial performance, monitoring and improving key financial, quality, and operational metrics. Championing quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, enhancing patient experience, and supporting the development of new programs and services in response to community needs are also core functions. The role supports the academic mission by facilitating research, education, and innovation, and ensures the translation of discovery into the clinical environment.
