About The Position

This is an on-site leadership position based in Winston-Salem, NC, for the Greater Wake Area. The Area Vice President will serve as a key member of the senior management team, providing visionary leadership and fostering a common vision for the National Service Line (NSL). This role involves representing the NSL in division and area initiatives, collaborating on strategic planning, financial modeling, and operational reviews. The position oversees both ambulatory and inpatient services, focusing on clinical quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency. It also involves building effective teams, managing administrative leaders, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. The role supports the academic mission by facilitating research, education, and innovation, and ensuring the translation of discovery into clinical practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of healthcare administrative experience.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated progressively responsible management experience overseeing clinical operations or service lines.
  • Effective communication, ensuring transparency and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in healthcare planning, operations, and financial management.
  • Proven ability to lead large, multispecialty service lines in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and change management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Must be able to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Regular travel throughout the designated Area(s).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health or related field.
  • A terminal degree, such as PhD, JD or PharmD.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Area’s senior management team and leadership table, providing visionary leadership and fostering a common vision for the NSL.
  • Act as an NSL representative for Division and Area(s) initiatives and programs, including access, teammate engagement, patient experience, and quality.
  • Collaborate with NSL, Division, and Area(s) leadership to prioritize major program and clinical services initiatives and model financial impact for new business models.
  • Lead Area(s) monthly operation performance reviews, monitor budget-to-actuals, investigate variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement annual business plans, growth strategies, and operational objectives that support Area’s and NSL goals.
  • Oversee ambulatory and inpatient services across the care continuum, ensuring high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Build effective teams, foster collaboration, and create an atmosphere of open communication.
  • Influence others to gain support, commitment, and action across the organization to achieve institutional goals.
  • Support institutional program planning for new facilities or programs.
  • Lead integration and optimization of NSL operations and best practices across the Area(s), including supporting merger, acquisition, and new partnership activities.
  • Represent the NSL in local and state forums to enhance the brand and reputation of the service line.
  • Coordinate with physician co-leaders to advance clinical programs and innovation.
  • Collaborate with independent physician practice groups and lead negotiation, management, and oversight of physician contracts.
  • Directly manage administrative service line leaders, including hiring, evaluations, development, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Lead workforce strategy for the Area(s), including staffing and leadership development.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, accountability, and excellence among all teammates and physician partners.
  • Ensure compliance with all organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of behavior.
  • Improve employee experience, maintain low turnover rates, and promote professional development.
  • Collaborate on preparation of annual operating and capital budgets, review and endorse NSL budgets and reforecasts, and ensure long-term planning aligns with NSL goals.
  • Identify value capture and efficiency opportunities across Area(s) sites of care, create measurement and monitoring methods and tools to track realization.
  • Ensure effective resource allocation, budget management, capital planning, and financial performance for all NSL services within the Area(s).
  • Monitor and improve key financial, quality, and operational metrics; drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Champion quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, leveraging data and best practices to achieve superior outcomes.
  • Enhance patient experience measures across all markets.
  • Support the development and implementation of new programs and services, responding to community needs and market dynamics.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement, focusing on error reduction, process improvement, and benchmarking for growth.
  • Collaborate with marketing and community relations to enhance access and awareness of NSL services.
  • Support the academic mission by facilitating research, education, and innovation within the Area(s).
  • Partner with clinical and academic leaders to ensure clinical operations appropriately support educational and research programs.
  • Ensure the translation of discovery into the clinical environment, offering patients the most advanced care.
