About The Position

The Area Medical Director will be responsible for the clinical and operational performance of 10-15 clinics within their market. This includes overseeing the quality of care, provider development, patient experience, and financial results, while also practicing medicine for approximately 10 hours per week. The role involves leading a team of Center Medical Directors and collaborating with operations leadership, with direct reporting to the national clinical leadership team. This position is designed for clinicians with prior experience leading a site, team, or service line who are seeking a larger leadership role. The company emphasizes developing leadership potential and clinical credibility, providing investment in the necessary business acumen.

Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted license as a Physician (MD/DO), Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant, with national certification as applicable.
  • BLS/ACLS required by start date.
  • DOT certification required.
  • 5+ years of clinical experience in urgent care, emergency medicine, or a similar acute/ambulatory setting.
  • Comfortable treating patients of all ages.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated leadership as a medical director, lead clinician, site lead, or comparable role.
  • Exposure to the business side of medicine (schedules, staffing, metrics, or budgets) and a genuine curiosity to learn more.
  • Strong soft skills including active listening, trust-building, and the judgment to manage ambiguity.

Responsibilities

  • Set and uphold quality and safety standards across the market in partnership with Center Medical Directors.
  • Deliver evidence-based, compassionate urgent care and/or primary care (~10 hrs/week).
  • Champion clinical initiatives and adapt national playbooks to the local market.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop Center Medical Directors and providers.
  • Drive provider engagement and retention by modeling ownership, transparency, and a positive culture.
  • Lead performance conversations with fairness and clarity, using data-informed coaching.
  • Own the day-to-day clinical operations of centers, including patient flow, staffing models, access, and patient experience.
  • Partner on P&L performance and develop financial fluency.
  • Grow the market through occupational health, community partnerships, and referral relationships.
  • Report regularly to national leadership on market status and act autonomously based on observations.
