About The Position

This role is responsible for managing production team leaders and members within stamping press operations. The Area Manager will direct the manufacturing process, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and maintenance procedures. This position requires planning and directing production activities, establishing priorities, and coordinating with various departments to optimize resource utilization. The Area Manager will analyze reports to identify and resolve production issues, implement process improvements, and consult with engineering on equipment modifications. Additionally, the role involves investigating and resolving team member complaints, promoting lean manufacturing principles, and maintaining compliance with organizational policies and safety standards. Specific responsibilities for the transfer area include managing teammates with knowledge of die setting, press parameters, and the ability to initiate production runs. This includes performing quality inspections, transporting and changing dies, setting up rails, and training personnel. The Area Manager must maximize job/die performance, document issues, and collaborate with improvement teams, tool & die, and maintenance to optimize press utilization and minimize downtime. They will also perform minor maintenance repairs and ensure excellent housekeeping.

Requirements

  • Must be mechanically inclined and have initiative to drive improvement to meet established performance goals.
  • Must work to acquire acceptable training to operate a crane and forklift.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • The employee is required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, bend to the floor, exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and exert up to 25 pounds of force frequently.
  • Near visual acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts.
  • Hearing ability is needed to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes to take appropriate action.

  • Prefer five (5) years supervisory experience in a metal stamping facility.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes the duties and responsibilities for production team leaders and members.
  • Manages, trains, instructs and evaluates team members as team players.
  • Directs the manufacturing process, safety, maintenance, quality methods and procedures.
  • Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Coordinates production activities with production control, maintenance, tool room, and quality control to obtain optimum production and utilization of manpower, machine, and equipment.
  • Reviews and analyzes production, quality, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of non-conformity with product specifications or production problems.
  • Implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
  • Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment to improve production and quality of products.
  • Conducts investigations and meetings to resolve team member complaints and discusses such complaints with management for resolution.
  • Works towards the concept of lean manufacturing.
  • Maintains compliance with organizational policies, and safety standards.
  • Forecasts labor requirements and recommends equipment or layout changes.
  • Complies with all quality and environmental system requirements.
  • Contributes ideas and actions promoting environmentally sound business practices.
  • Works in conjunction with the Production Manager and Team Leader, to ensure compliance to all quality and environmental systems.
  • Treats all other team members with respect and dignity.
  • Performs other essential functions as assigned.
  • Manages teammates with knowledge of die setting, press parameters, and the ability to start the press from a complete shutdown condition.
  • Initiates press production runs to a continuous mode.
  • Performs quality inspection checks, First Off/Last Off inspections and all “Inspection Strategy” procedures.
  • Transports dies, performs die sets up and changes dies in transfer press according to the production schedule.
  • Performs all rail setups and makes sure they are hooked up correctly and working properly.
  • Installs, positions, and aligns dies on the bolster.
  • Trains part packers on how to perform their job properly.
  • Maximizes each job/die when it is in the press.
  • Initiates, recommends, or provides solutions through documented Team discussions.
  • Documents all issues with a die and/or press in detail and communicate those issues to the Press Improvement Teams.
  • Works intimately with the Press Improvement Team, Tool & Die and Maintenance to optimize press utilization, changeover time, press repairs and die repairs.
  • Makes gripper adjustments, end stop adjustments and adjust coil feed parameters to minimize press downtime.
  • Performs small maintenance repairs, as needed.
  • Strictly adheres to all safety regulations, according to company policy.
  • Establishes and maintains excellent housekeeping habits.
