About The Position

Area Manager - Civil Interferences Lead in/Lead out has overall accountability for the progression of planning and readiness activities related to Pickering RFR Civil Interferences Lead in/Lead out scope (LILO). This position provides leadership and alignment for all activities related to the Pickering RFR civil WPs and DECs. Reporting directly to the RFR Project Manager, they are the primary point of contact to ensure a consistent, deliberate, and clear methodology is used for key decisions, and advancement of deliverables their scope of work. Expected Commitment: 100% (1.0 FTE). Work is 100% physically present in the office, and work locations will be a mixture of Pickering Project Office (Clements Road), Atkins-Realis office (Pickering Parkway), OPG Pickering offices (Brock Road), and on site at Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. Most of their time will be spent on site during execution. Your role Lead by example to ensure a “ONE TEAM” Project-First, collaborative approach for internal, external, cross-JV and client-facing interactions. Create the context that promotes this and other values that are required to make the project successful. Ensure the delivery of all its scope in accordance with safety standards, on time, on budget and compliant with the Contract. Provide regular and accurate progress updates to the Project Manager, CanAtom Project Controls, and the Client for reporting purposes. The Area Manager is accountable for the cost & schedule adherence and management of threats and opportunities, including timely escalation. Early identification of any threats to Project schedule or cost profile, or quality issues. Constantly monitor for schedule and cost reduction opportunities across their scope of work. In particular, the Area Manager should be continuously looking for more efficient methods to perform the Work. Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure the Project requirements are met and represents the most efficient methods to deliver Scope. Driving compensatory actions related to adverse quality trends during the project. As a member of the Interferences and Services Project Leadership Team, participate in regular meetings and provide advice and support to the other members. Support the development and maintenance of the Project Risk Register. Specifically, the Area Manager is responsible for the identification, mitigation and management of related risk items for their scopes. Stakeholdering with the Client on requests for contract changes in close collaboration with the support team. Tracking and expediting internal and external deliverables as part of the contract. The Area Manager is the SPOC for their scope for the entire CanAtom organization. They will lead a matrixed team of Construction, Engineering, Training, Tooling, Quality, Procurement and CWP development (projects) to prepare for and execute a defined portion of the project scope. They will be responsible for directing and overseeing the work of the Civil I&S PCs and SLs (project team). Lead the field execution of the civil scopes, driving accountability for performance to each of the support organizations (engineering, construction, procurement, tooling, training, QC). Ensure support and technical assistance are deployed to the Construction team during planning and the construction phase on Site. Provide frequent, informal performance feedback to Interferences and Services team members, and formal feedback according to home office company policy. Endeavor the feedback to be in person wherever possible. Perform functional management responsibilities of functional PC/SL team according to home office company policy.

Requirements

  • Technical post-secondary degree or diploma.
  • 3 - 5 years of related experience, ideally in a nuclear refurbishment environment.
  • Experience and skill at detailed work planning including scope definition, staffing, budget and schedule formation.
  • Demonstrated leadership of construction trades and professional project staff required.
  • Strong Team Collaboration and Interpersonal Skills.
  • Detail Oriented Approach, Focused on Quality.
  • Strong Verbal & Written Communication and Relationship Management Skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Construction Field Experience in nuclear environment is an asset, particularly in civil works.
  • Mega-project or Portfolio Projects Experience in nuclear environment is an asset.
  • EPC Contractor Experience.
  • Demonstrated Project Management Knowledge (e.g. via PMI Certification).
  • Primavera P6 Knowledge.
