Archaeological Field Technician (On-Call)
About The Position
Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is seeking On-Call Archaeological Field Technicians in the Northwest Region, specifically in Central Washington (Ellensburg, Mattawa, Quincy, etc.). The ideal candidate is an effective team member experienced in archaeological surveys and documentation, familiar with local, state, and federal guidelines. Experience conducting cultural resources survey work in Central Washington, particularly near the Columbia River and its reservoirs, is highly valued. A minimum of six months of field or relevant academic experience in the Northwest Region is required. The role involves fieldwork in various environments, including remote and urban settings, and may require some night and/or weekend work. Responsibilities include conducting archaeological survey and site testing, monitoring construction activities, communicating with project personnel, and maintaining detailed logs using electronic data collection tools and GIS mapping applications.
Requirements
- Minimum of six months of field experience or relative academic field experience in the Northwest Region.
- Experience conducting cultural resources survey work in Central Washington, specifically in close proximity to the Columbia River and associated reservoirs.
- Knowledgeable of archaeological materials common to the region.
- Able to walk long distances carrying a backpack.
- Able to lift at least 40 pounds.
- Confident working outside, in remote and rural settings, as well as in urban environments.
- Physical outdoor work may include, but may not be limited to, work in all types of weather, traversing uneven ground and sometimes steep terrain in forested environments, fields, arid lands, along stream banks, and in coastal/intertidal areas.
- Some night and/or weekend work may be required.
- May participate in compliance monitoring and reporting activities for on-going construction projects; will work near heavy equipment.

Responsibilities
- Conduct archaeological survey and site testing activities (shovel probe excavation, test unit excavation, surface survey, site recording, etc.).
- Monitor construction activities and identify archaeological resources.
- Effectively communicate with construction crews and project personnel.
- Write and maintain written daily surveys, monitoring, recordation, and cataloging logs, including utilizing electronic data collection tools and GIS mapping applications.
