Arborist Trainee Internship | Needham, MA
About The Position
This is a field-based Arborist Trainee Internship with The Davey Tree Expert Company, beginning in Spring-Summer 2027. The internship offers career-oriented students opportunities in the green industry, providing a safe, inclusive, and engaging work environment. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals to deliver exceptional client service and maintain trees and landscapes. The role involves learning various aspects of arboriculture, including pruning, removal, installation, plant health care, and the daily operations of a Residential Tree Care office. The internship aims to introduce students to career pathways in arboriculture and related fields.
Requirements
- Studying Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Natural Resources, Horticulture, Landscape Design, Forestry or related discipline.
- Driver’s license required.
- Must have enthusiasm for proper plant care and arboriculture.
- Love of the Outdoors!
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Demonstrated ability to report to work regularly and punctually.
- Collaboration and communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- Commercial driver’s license a plus.
Responsibilities
- Learn to be a tree doctor.
- Work in the field, side-by-side with experienced Arborists, Climbers and Plant Health Care technicians and Landscape professionals.
- Deliver exceptional client service and maintain the health and beauty of trees & landscapes.
- Perform tree pruning, removing, cabling, bracing and maintenance.
- Conduct Tree & Landscape Installation.
- Operate equipment including chainsaws, chippers, and other tools used in the field.
- Engage in Plant Health Care, including deep root fertilization, soil care and integrated pest & disease management.
- Gain exposure to the daily operations and business components that power a successful Residential Tree Care office.
- Learn client service, sales, management, and leadership fundamentals.
