About The Position

The Arboriculture Intern works alongside Bartlett Tree Experts’ arborists to gain practical field experience in scientific tree and shrub care on commercial and residential properties. The summer internship offers hands-on training in arboriculture and exposure to different aspects of the industry. Internships last 8–12 weeks and are 40 hours per week. They generally start in May, with start and end dates flexible based on availability.

Requirements

• Have a passion for nature, the environment, and the outdoors.
• Be pursuing a degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Turfgrass, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Plant Science, Outdoor Recreation, Agriculture, or a related field.
• Have an interest in working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Have a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work on a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Learn and safely perform arboriculture work, including pruning, rigging, cabling and bracing, root collar excavations, and removals.
• Learn to properly maintain and operate equipment, including hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
• Gain an understanding of integrated pest management programs, including property inspections, tree identification, insect and disease identification and management, and soil sampling.
• Participate in record-keeping, report writing, and client relations.
• Participate in safety and training meetings.
• Develop professional relationships and friendships.
