About The Position

Aquatics Recreation Specialist positions coordinate, implement, monitor, and evaluate department-wide aquatic and volunteer programs. They assist in the development and implementation of youth and adult fitness and recreational programs and activities at pools. Responsibilities include recruiting, supervising, and evaluating staff, interns, and volunteers, and scheduling and coordinating staff and volunteer assignments. The role involves advertising and promoting City-wide aquatic and volunteer programs, planning, coordinating, and implementing training for aquatics and volunteer supervisory staff, and conducting department-wide on-site inspections of staff and programs. Additionally, the specialist will maintain liaison with schools, the public, community organizations, recreation councils, and other interested groups, and manage the budget, ordering, and distribution of aquatic supplies and volunteer incentives. Other duties as assigned are also part of the role.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education (i.e., minimum completed units = 120 semester/180 quarter)
• One year of full-time experience developing, planning, and implementing aquatic recreation programs
• A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire

Nice To Haves

• Possession of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certificate
• Possession of a valid First Aid for Public Safety Personnel Instructor (Title 22) Certificate
• Possession of a valid Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Trainer Certificate
• Experience promoting and assisting in the administration of an organized volunteer program
• Computer experience utilizing web-based software programs

Responsibilities
