About The Position

The C.W. Avery Family YMCA is looking for an energetic Aquatics Manager to help lead their dynamic aquatics department and make a vibrant impact in their community. The role involves mentoring lifeguards, elevating swim programs, and engaging with members of all ages. The Aquatics Manager will work alongside the Aquatics Director to ensure the pools are safe, welcoming, and high-performing. The position focuses on developing, organizing, and implementing high-quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as a head lifeguard, etc.
  • Lifeguard Certification
  • CPR Certification
  • First Aid Certification
  • Completion of New Staff Orientation within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of Bloodborne Pathogens training within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of Sexual Harassment Prevention training within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of Active Shooter training within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of Slip Trip and Fall prevention training within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of Hazardous Communications training within 30 days of hire.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administration and supervision of the aquatics staff, swimming pool and related areas per YMCA requirements.
  • Provides emergency services when necessary.
  • Coordinates scheduling for private, semi-private and adapted swim lessons, as well as scouting events.
  • Assists with managing daily shift coverage.
  • Coordinates or provides emergency coverage as needed assuring pools have a certified lifeguard on deck during all operating hours and after hour rentals.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with department operational plans.
  • Assists with recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling and directing personnel and volunteers as needed.
  • Assists with the review and evaluation of staff performance.
  • Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools.
  • Secures and schedules pool facilities.
  • Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Conducts lifeguarding and swim instruction in-services.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner and communicates occurrences with Aquatics Director.
  • Compiles program statistics.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Must be willing to become a Lifeguard Instructor within 3 months of being hired.
  • Teach Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid classes to YMCA staff and the community.
