About The Position

The Salvation Army Kroc Center is seeking an Aquatic seasonal Lifeguard Lead who will be cross-disciplined in all aspects of the aquatics department, including Lifeguarding and Educational Programming. This position is a seasonal role from early June through early August, requiring set weekend morning or afternoon hours as directed by the Aquatics Manager. The role involves supporting the Aquatics Manager, Assistant Manager, and Aquatics Coordinators in the oversight of the aquatics department, focusing on programming, personnel, and the maintenance of daily operations. The Lifeguard Lead will also be responsible for maintaining inventory and upkeep of aquatics equipment and supplies, ensuring policies and procedures align with current laws and industry standards, and assisting in the enforcement of departmental guidelines. A key responsibility includes maintaining and updating the department's Emergency Action Plan. The position requires responding to member/guest injuries, activating EMS when necessary, and reporting incidents. The Lifeguard Lead will also attend, assist, and lead staff meetings, and support Aquatics Management by serving as a program-area supervisor during shifts. Additionally, the role involves assisting in the creation, development, and implementation of community-based educational opportunities and programs. All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 20 years of age.
  • Minimum two years’ experience as lifeguard, preferably with one year of experience overseeing people or programs.
  • Must possess and maintain current certificates in CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro), Oxygen Administration, and Lifeguarding.
  • Possess significant experience working at a large public pool facility.
  • Documented knowledge of principles and techniques of aquatic instruction and coaching, Safety protocol (First Aid, CPR, water rescues & lifeguarding); personnel and program supervision; and facility oversight.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts from June – September; and other off-seasonal time periods.
  • Ability to prioritize and address projects, which may conflict, in a time-sensitive manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively; ability to interact with co-workers, management, leadership, and the public in a positive, productive manner.
  • Ability to analyze problems and reach acceptable and workable solutions; implement effectively.
  • Ability to present oneself in a professional manner; ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in relation to information and documentation.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate well in English required.
  • Have the ability to work with children, adults, and other staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling, and education.
  • Must have the ability to swim with proficiency and endurance.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) or above.
  • Prefer candidates with Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate from nationally recognized organization or verify enrollment in first 90 days of hire.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as program-area supervisor for Aquatics during after hour Weekend Summer Parties: providing leadership over operations of the facility and staff.
  • Provide supervision for aquatics employees & mentor support staff in carrying out supervision of employees.
  • Maintain inventory and upkeep of aquatics equipment and supplies for programs and member usage.
  • Maintain policies, procedures and operations reflective of current laws & aquatics industry standards.
  • Assist with the enforcement of guidelines relevant to the Aquatics department
  • Maintain Emergency Action Plan for department, updated to meet current industry standards.
  • Respond to member/ guest injuries, activating EMS as appropriate and reporting incidents as directed.
  • Attend/Assist/Lead staff meetings as assigned.
  • Support Aquatics Management and serve as program-area supervisor when on shift for Aquatics: providing leadership over operations of the Aquatics programs and facilities.
  • Assist in creation, development, and implementation of community based educational opportunities and programs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
