About The Position

The Aquatics Instructor trains lifeguard applicants in recognition, rescue skills, CPR, and First Aid. Applicants must be able to attend an Ellis and Associates Instructor training course and have open availability during summer. The role requires at least one year of experience in aquatics or emergency response, the ability to facilitate training for large groups, excellent communication and verbal skills, professionalism, energy, the ability to motivate others, a positive attitude, and strong teamwork skills.

The position also involves physical and sensory demands, including swimming, treading water, lifting oneself out of a pool, and working in heat, sun, wetness, and other conditions. Applicants must meet the stated age, licensing, education, and vision requirements.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience in aquatics or emergency response.
• Ability to facilitate training in large groups.
• Excellent communication and verbal skills.
• Professional, energetic, able to motivate others, positive, and a strong team worker.
• At least 19 years of age.
• Valid California Driver’s License.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current, valid International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP) Lifeguard License.
• Ability to swim over 200 yards and tread water without using hands for over 2 minutes.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and lift oneself out of a 3-foot pool without a ladder or steps.
• Vision of 20/25 or 20/25 corrected.
• Ability to meet the listed physical and sensory requirements, including standing, speaking clearly, hearing, seeing near and far, depth perception, color vision, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, finger movement, balancing, crouching, and crawling.
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling should not exceed 25 pounds; assistance from a coworker or mechanical device is required for these tasks.
