Job Summary: An Aquatic Center Leader plans, promotes, oversees and conducts aquatic programs at a community aquatic center. Work of this class involves leading part-time pool staff but does not perform full supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional work week which may include evening and weekend hours. Work is performed in aquatic centers where inclement weather conditions may be encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Three (3) years of experience in aquatics recreational activities including teaching swimming lessons.
  • Lifeguard Certificate issued by the American Red Cross.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certificate issued by the American Red Cross.
  • Water Safety Instructor Certificate issued by the American Red Cross.
  • Certified Pool Operator Certificate issued by the American Red Cross.

  • Knowledge of the techniques of designing, planning and promoting aquatic activities.
  • Knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge of first aid and safety instructions.
  • Knowledge of the use and care of recreational equipment.
  • Ability to analyze community and group aquatic needs.
  • Ability to select and adapt programs to meet community and group needs.
  • Ability to work effectively with large groups of people.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, promotes, oversees and conducts aquatic programs at a community aquatic center.
  • Leading part-time pool staff.
  • Assign and review the work of others.
  • Plan and organize an aquatics recreation activity.
  • Provide excellent customer service and create a work atmosphere where serving others is a priority.
  • Maintain discipline and order.
