Apprentice to Journeyman Lineman
About The Position
EnergyUnited is hiring a full-time Apprentice to Journeyman Lineman at its Lexington, North Carolina location. The position focuses on learning and performing technical work related to construction, operation, and maintenance of a reliable electric system. The employee will work collaboratively with team members, follow cooperative safety rules, contribute recommendations to improve operations, and communicate with members during routine service and outages. The role includes learning to handle emergency and on-call responsibilities and developing familiarity with voltage regulation, fault current, line-protection coordination, transformer sizing, transmission and distribution lines, substations, switching stations, and required records and reports. Responsibilities
- Observe all safety rules and regulations adopted by the cooperative.
- Learn and demonstrate specialized technical skills in constructing, operating, and maintaining a reliable electric system.
- Recommend changes to improve operations in the assigned area as they relate to the position.
- Coordinate and cooperate with team members in performing assigned responsibilities.
- Learn to perform emergency and on-call responsibilities using knowledge of voltage regulation, fault current, and coordination of line-protection devices.
- Learn to apply theory when sizing single-phase transformers.
- Become familiar with transmission and distribution line feeds and the operation of substations and switching stations.
- Learn to use and apply required forms, records, and reports.
- Maintain a positive attitude that reflects the cooperative’s core values.
- Communicate effectively with members during routine service and outage events.
