About The Position

Xcel Energy Distribution Department is looking to fill an Apprentice (1st Year - 4th Year) or Journey Line Worker position for our Dumas, TX location. As an apprentice lineman you will be taught a very rewarding career in constructing, maintenance, removal and storm restoration of high voltage distribution and transmission lines. Xcel Energy has a very reputable Department of Labor certified apprentice program that is recognized throughout the United States. The position will be responsible for construction, maintenance and operations. Supports maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution and transmission lines.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class A) or ability to acquire it within 120 days of start date
  • Successfully taken the EEI CAST Assessment (for Apprentice)
  • Totally committed to safety, quality work and customer service
  • Able and willing to respond to after hour and weekend call outs
  • Mentally competent, able to communicate and able to comprehend instructions and build on previous experience
  • Teamwork attitude and able to work with others
  • Lift and maneuver up to 90 lbs
  • Climb wood poles up to 100' tall
  • Perform aerial work in a safety belt in a safe and efficient manner
  • Use shovels, sledgehammers and 90 lb. jack hammers
  • Work in confined areas
  • Pass the federal DOT physical examination
  • Complete all questions in application and upload a resume for consideration
  • Reside within 20 miles of the Dumas Service Center
  • Successfully score on the Journeyman Assessment (for Journeyman)
  • Completion of an approved apprentice line program or 5 years of progressive electric lineman experience (for Journeyman)
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Physically fit and able to lift objects up to 90 pounds, pass a physical examination and be able to perform strenuous physical labor under all types of conditions (for Journeyman)
  • High awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules
  • Pass the Xcel Energy security and drug screening

Nice To Haves

  • Travel for extended time periods may be required
  • Attend 2nd, 3rd and 4th year apprentice schools (for Apprentices)

Responsibilities

  • Construction, maintenance and operations
  • Supports maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution and transmission lines
  • Constructing, maintenance, removal and storm restoration of high voltage distribution and transmission lines
  • Performing all aspects of electric distribution overhead, underground, construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Responding to emergency callouts as per a schedule
  • Working with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers and groundwork with utility line crew
  • Protecting the company's information and systems by adhering to cybersecurity policies, standards, and best practices
