About The Position
Baystate Health’s Apprentice Nurse Program (ANP) offers nursing students hands-on patient care experience while they are actively enrolled in an accredited registered nurse (RN) nursing program. Apprentice Nurses work alongside Registered Nurses and the healthcare team while developing clinical, communication, and organizational skills. The position is based at Baystate Health in western Massachusetts, with shifts that vary. Baystate Health is an integrated healthcare system serving communities throughout western Massachusetts. Its network includes hospitals, medical practices, and home health and hospice services.
Requirements
- Actively enrolled and participating in an accredited RN nursing program.
- Successful completion of one full semester of clinical rotation, or previous applicable patient care experience as an ANP, CNA, MA, HHA, EMT, PCT, Medic, or similar role.
- GED or HiSET.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care, including hygiene, mobility, and elimination needs.
- Obtain vital signs, intake and output, and other patient measurements.
- Collect specimens and perform point-of-care testing.
- Monitor patients and communicate changes or safety concerns to the RN.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Support patient safety and assist with additional patient care activities as directed.
