About The Position

Ballard Power Systems, Inc. is a global leader in fuel cell technology, providing clean‑energy products that enable optimized power systems across a wide range of applications. Ballard is an international public company traded on both the NASDAQ and TSX. Ballard has an immediate opportunity for a Second or 3rd‑year Electrical Apprentice to join its Maintenance Team in Burnaby, BC. The successful candidate will apply strong technical skills to support, maintain, and improve the electrical systems and equipment that keep Ballard’s manufacturing and operations facilities running safely and efficiently. Working closely with a team of maintenance technicians, technologists, and engineers in a fast‑paced environment, the candidate will contribute to the reliability, uptime, and continuous improvement of Ballard’s production and facility infrastructure. The ideal candidate works well with senior maintenance and engineering staff, is capable of independent troubleshooting, and takes pride in supporting the safe and efficient operation of Ballard’s fuel cell manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Must be working toward or have a Red Seal Electrical Certification
  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in a relevant industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Experience analyzing analog and digital circuits
  • Knowledge of electrical/electronic components, their characteristics, and limitations
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills using tools such as a DMM
  • Strong electrical prototyping and repair skills (wire stripping, crimping, soldering, connector work)
  • Good mechanical aptitude with tools such as drills, grinders, saws, and wrenches
  • Experience configuring or programming electrical devices such as motor drives, sensors, and distributed I/O systems
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and/or National Electrical Code
  • Excellent time‑management and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi‑functional team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing, drawing, or analyzing low‑voltage electrical circuits
  • Experience with PLCs and creation of I/O drawings
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting software
  • Experience with instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow sensors)
  • Experience with automation, machine communication, or industrial control systems

Responsibilities

  • Building, installing, and maintaining electrical systems, including control panels, instrumentation, facility wiring, and equipment harnesses
  • Performing routine and preventive maintenance on electrical equipment and facility systems
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical faults in production equipment, facility infrastructure, and support systems
  • Supporting corrective maintenance activities and assisting in root‑cause analysis of equipment failures
  • Assisting in the preparation and updating of maintenance documentation, including work orders, procedures, and equipment records
  • Selecting, sourcing, and organizing electrical components and spare parts
  • Supporting equipment upgrades, retrofits, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensuring all work complies with safety standards and electrical codes
