About The Position

The facilities maintenance technician in a beverage manufacturing facility plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of production equipment, facilities, and utilities while maintaining compliance with quality standards and safety regulations. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to maintenance tasks to support uninterrupted production and product quality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a maintenance mechanic in a beverage manufacturing or processing environment is a plus.
  • Wastewater treatment plant experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with sanitation standards (e.g., FDA, NSF) and quality management systems (e.g., ISO standards).
  • Proficiency in reading technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in the workplace.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed to support production schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot utility systems critical to production, such as boilers, chillers, compressors, HVAC systems, and water treatment facilities. Ensure that utilities operate efficiently and reliably to support manufacturing operations.
  • Inspects buildings inside and outside including rooftop and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair making notes and recommendations using a pre‐established check sheet.
  • Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools.
  • Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.).
  • Performs minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.).
  • Follows proper lock out/tag out procedures when required.
  • Independently perform all assignments after receiving general instructions as to the results expected.
  • Coordinates several projects simultaneously while prioritizing competing demands and within assigned periods.
  • Follows and complies with all applicable plant policies, GMP’s, SQF, SOP’s, SSOP’s, safety procedures, and HACCP programs.
  • Completes all OSHA required training as required and corrects any unsafe conditions as necessary.
  • Adhere to sanitation standards and hygiene protocols to prevent contamination and ensure product safety and quality.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines for equipment operation, maintenance activities, and chemical handling. Conduct safety inspections, participate in safety training programs, and promote a culture of safety awareness among maintenance team members.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment logs, inspection reports, and inventory of spare parts and supplies. Ensure that all documentation is up to date and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, or production interruptions to minimize downtime and mitigate potential impacts on product availability. Troubleshoot issues, implement temporary fixes if necessary, and coordinate with production and engineering teams to resolve problems effectively.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, equipment upgrades, and cost-saving initiatives. Propose recommendations for improvements in maintenance procedures, equipment reliability, and energy efficiency to enhance overall operational performance.
