About The Position

Mainroad Alberta Contracting LP is actively seeking a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician (Heavy Duty Mechanic) to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. In this position you will play an important role in maintaining our essential fleet of vehicles and equipment, directly contributing to safe and efficient highway operations. Mainroad Alberta Contracting LP, an employee-owned company and a proud member of the Mainroad Group, holds highway maintenance contracts with the Government of Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors. We are COR certified and active members of the Alberta Road Builders & Heavy Construction Association (ARHCA) and the Alberta Public Works Association.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year heavy equipment technician apprentice is required.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.
  • Ability to acquire and record accurate information.
  • Willing to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Capable of performing heavy physical labour.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Positive attitude with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Safety conscious.
  • Dedicated and committed.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with airbrake endorsement is an asset.
  • Prior mechanical experience working on highway maintenance and/or municipal equipment (including tandem highway trucks, pickup trucks, loaders, etc.) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with repairs and maintenance on a wide range of company vehicles and equipment, adhering to established standards and safety protocols.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills to effectively handle all aspects of heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Providing exceptional cooperation, service, and respect to co-workers, customers, and the general public.
  • Ensuring the completion of accurate and timely records and reports as required by company policies and guidelines.
  • Being accountable for all assigned tools and equipment, ensuring they are properly maintained and accounted for.
  • Performing other related duties and special assignments as required to support operational needs.
