About The Position

This position involves a 24-month apprentice program focused on the repair and maintenance of various vehicle systems. The apprentice will learn about suspension, brakes, exhaust, fuel systems, drive lines, steering, heating, lighting, electrical distribution, battery and charging system replacement, cooling systems, and vehicle signage. Responsibilities also include moving vehicles as needed, assisting journey persons, preparing written reports, and performing other vehicle maintenance duties. Additionally, the role may involve repairs and maintenance of buildings and grounds as directed. The program is designed to train individuals in the essential functions of vehicle repair and maintenance. Experienced mechanics may be accepted into the program or advance at an accelerated rate based on performance and committee recommendation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Ability to speak clearly, write legibly, and hear during ordinary conversation.
• Ability to see near and far and accurately judge depth perception.
• Must obtain a written temporary or valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License Class B with passenger endorsement within twelve months of hire date.
• One year of relevant technical training or trade school, OR two years of experience in vehicle repair.
• Successfully complete a 24-month probationary period.
• Provide contact information for previous employers for the past 12 years upon application.

Responsibilities

• Complete a 24-month apprentice program for the repair and maintenance of vehicle systems.
• Perform maintenance on suspension, brakes, exhaust, fuel, drive line, steering, heating, lighting, and electrical distribution systems.
• Replace batteries and charging system units.
• Maintain cooling systems and vehicle signage.
• Move vehicles as directed and necessary to perform job assignments.
• Assist journey persons as required.
• Prepare written reports related to vehicle maintenance.
• Perform other duties relative to vehicle maintenance.
• Conduct repairs or maintenance of building and grounds as directed.
