About The Position

Penn United Technologies, Inc. is accepting applications for full-time Apprentice – Finish Grinders to join our Carbide manufacturing team. We are looking for individuals who desire to do precision work and enjoy working in a manufacturing environment where contributions matter, growth is supported, and success is shared. This hands-on position combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction through our four-year, in-house certificate program, leading to Journeyworker title upon completion.

Requirements

  • Must have math & mechanical skills/aptitude
  • Must have the ability & desire to do precision work
  • Able to work well independently and cooperatively with team
  • Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Regular attendance and solid performance in apprenticeship classes
  • Expectation to work primarily on daylight shift, but available to work any shift needed; stand 8-10 hours per day, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of blueprint reading, and precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers is a plus
  • Previous experience with grinding machines is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Report to work on time and ready to learn and accomplish tasks
  • Attend on-site apprenticeship classes in addition to on-the-job learning while performing responsibilities on the shop floor
  • Learn to operate and understand manual and CNC grinding equipment
  • Learn to grind carbide components according to exact blueprint specifications
  • Read prints & job orders to determine dimensions and machine set-up
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media
  • Ensure proper grade segregation is practiced at all work stations
  • Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring devices (such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.)
