About The Position
Xcel Energy is seeking one or more Apprentice Cable Splicer Mechanics for its St. Paul Service Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The position performs construction, maintenance, and emergency repairs on underground distribution systems and company assets. Work includes maintaining vaults, pulling cable, and splicing conductors as needed. The role requires a safety-focused, self-motivated person who works well with others, maintains a positive attitude, provides consistent customer service, and works productively. The starting pay is $37.36 per hour. The posting period is October 19, 2026, through October 30, 2026.
Requirements
- Willingness to participate in an apprenticeship.
- Meet Driver Qualification requirements, including possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Capability to perform aspects of electric underground construction and maintenance.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivation, ability to work well with others, and a positive attitude.
- Commitment to working safely and providing consistent quality customer service.
Responsibilities
- Construct, maintain, and make emergency repairs to underground distribution systems.
- Perform underground construction and maintenance work on company assets.
- Maintain vaults, pull cable, and splice conductors as needed.
- Participate actively in training and retraining programs.
- Complete related paperwork in a timely manner.
- Be available for emergency call-outs for overtime assignments.
- Work safely, provide consistent quality customer service, and contribute to customer satisfaction and productive work.
