About The Position

The apprentice 1-2 works out of Stansell Electric’s Nashville office, assist in all aspects of installation, alteration, demolition, maintenance and/or repair of electrical systems, conductors, assemblies, and associated materials and equipment on all type of projects within the electrical construction industry. The apprentice 1-2 must demonstrate the mechanical aptitude, mathematical skills, and literacy skills commensurate to the satisfactory completion of position’s primary duties and responsibilities. Advancement opportunities are available by advancing to more senior positions or through transfer to skilled trades.

  • Working in extreme weather conditions and elements, indoor or outdoor, including heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, and snow depending on job location
  • Working in and around restricted/confined spaces, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, clean-rooms, raised metal floors, excavations
  • Working on or around slippery or uneven surfaces
  • Working in and around ditches, trenches, and excavations
  • Working in and around exposures typical of a heavy construction site such as heavy equipment, vehicular traffic and extreme noise levels
  • Working from various heights up to 120’ via ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks, and other safe work platforms and areas
  • Working around storage containers, transmission raceways, and manufacturing equipment containing live chemicals or toxic materials
  • Wearing personal tool belt at all times on the job. The waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 pounds with tool pouch, tools, and nail bags
  • Lifting 51 pounds, unassisted, 20 times per day
  • Constantly moving about on the feet
  • Completing a full day’s assignments involving one or more of the following; bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching over head, and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers
  • Digging trenches and excavations, either by use of hand tools or power equipment
  • Operating two handed tools/equipment such as cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, and jack hammers
  • Operating aerial personnel lifts
  • Transitioning from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to access all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use
  • Wearing all personal protective equipment at all times as required by the specific task; eye and face protection, steel toe leather work boots, hand protection, head protection, respirator, arc flash protection, etc.
  • Climbing and working from all types of ladders; step ladders up to 14’, “A” frame ladders, and all size extension ladders. Capable of carrying and relocating up to a 12’ step ladder by one’s self
  • Operating company vehicles with manual or automatic transmission
  • Utilizing construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns)
  • Working a 40 hour work week, with overtime and off-hour shifts as required
  • Personal weight including tool pouch, tools, nail bags, and tool belt must not exceed 300 lbs, weight limit of a class 1A ladder
  • Possession of good hearing, normal or corrected
  • Possession of good vision, normal or corrected
  • Positive identification of wiring colors
  • This is an entry-level position

Responsibilities

  • Perform the basic tasks of material handling, jobsite housekeeping, tool and equipment maintenance, and general labor
  • Dig trenches and excavations by use of hand tools and power equipment
  • Assist in underground conduit installation
  • Assist in mounting, securing, and installing electrical raceways, fixtures, and systems
  • Assist in wire pulling procedures
  • Perform basic wire terminations under general supervision.
  • Assembles pre-fabricated systems under general supervision.
  • Bend conduit with hand benders
  • Assist in operation of cable pullers, cable feeders, and hydraulic benders
  • Operate hand threading equipment under general supervision
  • Assist in the operation of power threading equipment
  • Performs all tasks in a timely manner
  • Read and interpret maps and instructional manuals
  • Understand and follow jobsite directions and instructions, both written and verbal
  • Comprehends and abides by Stansell Electric customer policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Reports all violations to immediate supervisor
  • Perform other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervision
