About The Position

The Los Angeles Community College District is establishing a pool of part-time adjunct Applied Music Lesson Instructors for the 2027 academic year. Openings are in Oboe, French Horn, Commercial/Jazz Guitar, and Commercial Voice at one or more of the District’s nine colleges. When a campus has an opening, it will review pool applications and contact selected applicants. Assignments depend on enrollment, funding, and class availability.

The instructor teaches applied music lessons and promotes engaging, inclusive environments that support student learning. Candidates should be prepared to work professionally and collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and community members, and to respond in culturally sensitive ways to people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Faculty may be required to teach in a virtual learning environment using CANVAS or other remote-learning methods.

Applicants must submit a letter of interest, a current resume, contact information for three professional references, and copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts. Employment is contingent upon verification of qualifications. Newly hired employees must provide their COVID-19 vaccination status before or by their position start date, subject to the District’s policy and approved exemptions.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in music; OR bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in humanities; OR the equivalent.
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Submit a letter of interest, current resume, contact information for three professional references, and copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
• Degrees must be granted by an accredited college or university in the United States; foreign transcripts must be accompanied by an approved equivalency evaluation.
• Provide COVID-19 vaccination status in compliance with District policy; newly hired employees must provide it before starting or by the position start date, unless an approved exemption applies.

Nice To Haves

• Master of Music degree in Performance in a relevant specialty, including Oboe, French Horn, Commercial/Jazz Guitar, or Voice.
• Experience teaching applied music lessons at the college level.
• Demonstrated certification in Blackboard, CANVAS, Course Compass, or other online modalities may be given preference.
