About The Position

The Applied AI Architect serves as the lead technical architect and subject matter expert for YU Global's AI-powered educational technology initiatives. This role is central to a federally funded workforce development initiative awarded to YU Global aimed at equipping underserved communities — beginning with District 6 in Washington Heights — with practical AI integration skills that meet emerging labor market demands. The position is responsible for the full lifecycle of AI system design, development, and deployment across YU Global's educational platforms.

Requirements

  • MA in Applied AI or related field
  • Minimum two years of experience in Computer Science, Educational Technology, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Portfolio of Applied AI solutions; EdTech applications preferred.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities with attention to detail.
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, agent frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex), multi-agent orchestration, vector databases, and embedding workflows.
  • Strong Python skills; experience with AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Cohere, Hugging Face), Cloud-native deployment, API design, and integration patterns for embedding AI into products.
  • Designing scalable, user-facing AI features end-to-end, integrating inference optimization, risk-awareness, and AI safety fundamentals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both with colleagues and external clients.
  • Creative and proactive problem-solver.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the continued development, deployment, and scaling of Course Constructor — an AI-driven system that automates academic course design.
  • Build an Adaptive Personalized Learning (APL) system which dynamically adjusts course content based on individual learner profiles, allowing courses to meet the needs of diverse student skill levels without singling out learners.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and technical lead for a new certificate program designed for a federal workforce development grant.
  • Design and implement AI-powered tutoring agents that guide learners through course content interactively, and expand deployment across YU Global's course catalog.
  • Produce applied research on AI integration in education, including a formal research paper on the APL architecture and innovation at YU Global.
  • As part of the federal AI Integration grant program, provide mentorship and consulting to participating businesses and organization, helping them to apply AI Integration skills to specific business settings.
