About The Position

ATC Automation is seeking an Applications Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will develop accurate cost estimates for custom-built automation machines and prepare clear, compelling proposals tailored to customer requirements. You will analyze customer drawings, tolerances, production needs, and technical specifications to ensure feasibility and precision. Using SolidWorks and supporting software tools, you will create conceptual machine designs and collaborate with leadership and the sales team to develop impactful customer presentations, including 3D renderings and supporting documentation. This position may be remote for highly experienced candidates, with periodic travel to ATC's headquarters in Cookeville, TN required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5–10 years of experience in custom automation and machine building
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based, collaborative environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SolidWorks
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, machine design, tolerancing, and technical drawings
  • Knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems and mechanisms
  • General understanding of electrical and pneumatic control systems
  • Familiarity with machining processes such as lathe work, milling, boring, and welding
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to present information clearly and respond effectively to questions in meetings and customer interactions

Responsibilities

  • Develop machine and tooling layouts for proposed automation systems
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to define and refine assembly solutions
  • Create preliminary and final cost estimates using Excel and related tools
  • Develop estimated operator task times for proposed processes using Excel or Word
  • Prepare detailed written proposals using Word and SolidWorks outputs
  • Conceptualize cost-effective assembly machines and test equipment solutions
  • Research and evaluate new product information relevant to proposed machine designs
  • Present proposals and concepts to customers and internal teams, addressing questions and feedback
  • Produce high-quality written and visual documentation to support sales and customer engagement
  • Maintain project timelines to ensure alignment with customer due dates and sales requirements
  • Travel periodically as required; valid driver's license is necessary
